For patients

Often an injury isn’t just about where the pain is. In many cases, pain results from a problem elsewhere that’s creating that painful muscle or joint. For instance, low back pain can easily be a result of foot problems or walking patterns. Neck pain may be due to problems with rib cage positioning or the shoulder blades see our Free Stuff page to find out how.Insurance Groups in our network.

Back Pain

Most back pain stems from 2 different problems: excessive arching of the low back and/or one side of the pelvis being higher than the other. How you sit, stand, walk, bend and perform other activities during the day feeds these problems. We will help you release chronic muscle tension contributing to your pain and follow this up with re-training how you move throughout the day so that your body doesn’t continue its cycle of pain (Click Free Stuff to learn more).

Neck Pain

Neck Pain, Headaches, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, or Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Often neck pain, headaches, carpal tunnel or thoracic outlet syndrome is not due to problems in the neck (Click Free Stuff for more information), it is due to poor shoulder girdle and/or rib cage function. Key muscles attach from the shoulder blades to the neck and base of the skull so if the shoulders do not work well, tension is delivered along these muscles to the neck and skull. This tension can compress, sidebend, or rotate the cervical vertebrae as well as alter how the head is resting on the neck. This chronic tension compromises nerves exiting the neck that travel down the arm creating these diagnoses. Because the shoulders rest on the rib cage, dysfunction here can therefore affect shoulder girdle and neck function too. We will help you work out how these issues are affecting you to resolve your problem.

Anxiety Or Stress-Based Pain

Stress can result from an accident, emotional trauma, pressure from work or many other sources. It generates pain through our fight-or-flight response. Stress triggers certain patterns of muscle tension unique to each person. This tension creates pain. We have special techniques to both reduce this response and unravel your tension patterns to eliminate your pain. We’ll also teach you how to change your response to your stressors so that they do not express themselves in your body.

Anxiety or Stress-Based Pain

Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Spurs

These difficult diagnoses are often the result of poor leg function. We begin to unravel your pain by finding and correcting the sources of stress to your foot and ankle. Often this is embedded in your walking pattern. We can use a variety of techniques to reduce tension such as therapeutic dry needling, Hanna Somatics, deep tissue massage, taping, or others. The combination of improving walking patterns and reducing tension usually does the trick (Click Free Stuff for more information)

Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Spurs

Runners Knee

Like many other chronic or nagging injuries, Runner’s knee usually results from problems elsewhere that are played out at the knee. The knees are essentially caught between two giants (the hips and feet). Problems in these two areas are expressed at the knee, which is often more vulnerable to stress. Most often fixing this type of pain involves understanding and modifying how you are walking and running as well as looking more deeply at hip and foot function (Click Free Stuff for more information).

Hip Pain

Hip pain, whether is it bursitis, ITB syndrome, arthritis, or other types of diagnoses, often have their roots in poor function of the muscles that control the hip joint. This can often cause poor tracking of the thigh bone in the hip joint creating pain in the back, side, or front of the hip. It can also be related to poor foot and ankle function. We will help you discover the root causes stressing your hip and correct them.

Hip Pain

Sciatic Pain and SI Joint Pain

Often these problems are due to a pelvis that is lifted on one side. This often results in rotation of the pelvis on the other side creating torque at the low back and pelvis. This usually occurs as a result of poor walking or sitting habits or some other problem. We will help you correct these issues and teach you how to maintain a better way of moving and remain painfree (Click Free Stuff to learn more).

Sciatic Pain and SI Joint Pain

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is usually due to poor shoulder blade function. The purpose of the shoulder blade is to serve as the foundation of movement of the upper arm. If it is not moving well, the shoulder joint muscles must work harder to do the job. This causes stress and pain. The shoulder blades are also affected by the orientation of the rib cage because they rest on the rib cage. Therefore it is not uncommon that correcting shoulder function begins at the pelvis and waist. We help you find these sources of stress and correct them to relieve stress at the shoulder joint.

Ergonomics are extremely important in terms of body function and pain. Solutions to pain must come from both altering worksite conditions and employee education. Because we at Body in Balance Physical Therapy understand human function so well, we can offer deeper insight into ergonomic solutions for you or your employees. Each person brings a unique history to their work station, therefore a one-size-fits-all solution cannot work as well as one that is integrated with the employee. We combine ergonomic solutions with personalized assessments to teach employees how best to sit or use their station.
